Appar Kailai Katchi is one of the Grand Event Celebrated in Thirvuaiyaru as a part of Aadipoora Mahotsavam held every year in the Tamil month of Aadi. It is believed that Lord Shiva gave dharshan to Appar in a pond in Thiruvaiyaru. This also gave another name to Thiruvaiyaru as “Then Kaiyalam”.
