Dharmapuram Adheenam Chief passed away

On 4th December 2019, Srilasri Shanmuga Desiga GnanaSambantha Paramachariya Swamigal passed away due to health problems. He is the 26th GuruMaha Sannithanam (Chief) of one of the most famous Saivite Mutt called Dharmapuram Adheenam which is located at Dharmapuram Village of Mayiladuthurai in Nagappatinam District. For the past few days he was admitted in a private hospital at Thanjavur due to some illness. Due to his failure in response to the treatment given by the hospital, he passed away in his age of 93.

Swamigal was born in Sirukattur at Cuddalore district in the year 1926. He studied at Viruthachalam Devara Paadasalai. He became a Scholar at Dharmapuram and he is also serving as Guest Lecturer. Later he was appointed as one of the  Thambirans of Dharmapuram Adheenam. In the year of 1971, he was chosen as Madathipathy (Chief) by the Adheenam.

Inspite of his ageing, Swamigal was effectively managing the properties and income of the Dharmapuram Adheenam in his duty period of the past 49 years.  Adheenam also manages 27 famous temples such as Thiruvaiyaru temple, Vaitheeswaran temple, Thirukkadaiyur, Thirunallar, etc. It is also important to be noted that this mutt has properties till Kasi.

On February 2017 considering his health and ageing, Swamigal appointed Srilasri Masilamani Desiga GnanaSambantha Swamigal as Ilaya Madathipathy (Junior Chief) of Dharmapuram  Adheenam who was at that time serving as Kattalai Thambiran at Thiruvaiyaru Panchanatheeswara Swami Temple Devasthanam.
